The Daniel Boone Homestead (DBH) is a state historical site owned by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC). In fall 2009, the PHMC saw a drastic budget reduction and subsequently withdrew historic-operations staff from the DBH, leaving two maintenance employees.
In an effort to maintain the educational and public functions of the DBH, the management of the site’s historical operations passed to the Friends of the Daniel Boone Homestead (FDBH), a non-profit volunteer organization. The FDBH has met the challenge of maintaining the site’s role as a valuable historical resource with enthusiasm and unwavering commitment, but with this new administrative role comes new financial responsibilities. We are committed to offering superior educational programming and special events for visitors of all ages and keeping the site's rental facilities accessible, but it is impossible without support from our visitors and friends!
In 2015, the FDBH were approved as an Educational Improvement Organization under the Education Incentive Tax Credit. Approved programs include History Day Camp, Junior History Workshops, and our Hands-On History Days. Check out our Calendar Page or our Parents & Teachers Page for more information about these programs!
